Acer Palmatum, commonly known as Japanese Maple is a species of woody plant that are grown for theirlarge variety of attractive forms, leaf shapes andspectactlar colour. It is deciduous, with a growth habit of a shrub or small tree.

 

They prefer part shade but will tollerate full shade too. Some of the red, red/purple, bronze and dark green varieties are generally more sun tollerant.

 

Moderate to well drained soil is essential. A 50-50 mix of John Innes No2 or No3 and ericaceous compost is ideal.
